Description

  • The "screw" and "strap" for this hinge are ordered as separate components. One hinge consists of one strap and one screw with pintle. You would normally order 2 straps and 2 pintle screws to hang one gate or door.
  • This hinge is also known as a Pintle Hinge.
  • When ordering components make sure that the pintle sizes match. The pintle sizes available for these components are 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 7/8".
  • The weight ratings listed are for one hinge. For example, if the listed weight rating is 100 lbs. and you install two hinges, your hinges would be rated at 200 lb.
  • The straps are normally installed using carriage bolts (not included).
  • Note: The sizes listed as the pintle diameter (for example 3/4" Pintle) are nominal dimensions, meaning they do not measure exactly that dimension. Use our nominal dimension to match up our straps with our bolts, etc. when you are ordering our products. If you order one of our products to match a pintle diameter of something that you already own, you do so at your own risk.

Weight Ratings

  • 1/2" Pintle: 100 lb per hinge
  • 5/8" Pintle: 150 lb per hinge
  • 3/4" Pintle: 200 lb per hinge

A pintle hinge is a type of hinge that consists of a pintle, which is a cylindrical metal pin, and a strap or plate that is attached to the door or gate. The pintle is inserted into a socket or bracket that is attached to the frame or post, allowing the door or gate to pivot on the pintle. The hinge can be either fixed or adjustable.

Pintle hinges are commonly used for heavy exterior doors and gates, as they can support a lot of weight and are very durable. They are often made of steel or iron and can be designed to have a rustic or antique look. Pintle hinges are sometimes used in pairs, with one hinge attached to the top of the door or gate and the other attached to the bottom, to provide additional support.

One of the advantages of pintle hinges is that they are very strong and can withstand harsh conditions. They are also relatively easy to install and maintain. However, they may not be suitable for all applications, as they require a certain amount of clearance between the door or gate and the frame in order to pivot properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get my hardware once it's been ordered?

The delivery time depends on how far you live from our San Diego warehouse. Generally, your order will reach you in 1 to 5 business days. Shipments do not move on weekends and holidays.

Do you ship merchandise outside the United States?

At this time, we only ship to addresses in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. For APO/FPO/DPO and Canadian orders, please email info@hardwaresource.com with a list of the SKU numbers and quantities you would like to purchase, along with your complete ship to address. Once we receive this information we will email you a shipping quote. Please note: Canadian shipments have a $50.00 minimum order.

I have a hinge that I am trying to replace but I need help identifying it. Can you help?

Yes! Please click here to visit our Hinge Finder page.

Some of your hinges are sold by the each and some sell by the pair. What is the difference?

When the unit of measure says “pair” that means two hinges. Usually you need one pair of hinges per door. When the unit of measure says “each” that means one hinge. You would usually order 2 “each” hinges per door.

I want to replace my hinges. How do I make sure the screw holes on the new hinge match the screw holes on the old hinge so I do not have to redrill the holes?

Unfortunately, hinge manufacturers have never standardized the location of their screw hole patterns. Every manufacturer puts their screw holes in a slightly different place. This means that when you replace hinges you will almost certainly have to do some filling and redrilling. The exception to this is Architectural door hinges which are built to a standardized template for each size hinge.
