Olive Knuckle Hinge, 2" x 1 - 1/2"

$3057 Each
Finish Name: Antique Brass
Handing

Description

Olive knuckle hinges are for light full-inset cabinet doors and shutters. They offer a unique and decorative alternative to regular butt hinges. When the door is in the closed position, only the single hinge knuckle is visible. A door or shutter installed with olive knuckle hinges can be lifted off the frame without removing hinge pins or hinge screws (the door can only be lifted off in the closed position).

Selecting Olive Knuckle Hinges

  • The 2" x 1-1/2" size works well for cabinet doors that are 1/2" to 5/8" thick.
  • The 2-1/2" x 2" size works well for cabinet doors that are 5/8" to 3/4" thick.
  • The 3" x 2-1/2" size works well for cabinet doors that are 3/4" to 1" thick.

These hinges are handed. Please study handing information before ordering. Further details can be found under the downloads section.

  • For a left hand and right hand reverse doors, use left hand hinges.
  • For right hand and left hand reverse doors, use right hand hinges.

Installation
Olive Knuckle hinges are designed to be installed fully mortised (into cutouts in the edge of the door and door frame). They cannot be installed as surface mounted hinges. Dimensions are approximate. These hinges are not built to a template and the dimensions can vary slightly between hinges. We strongly advise to wait to cut mortises for your hinges until you have them in hand. Once you have your hinges in hand your mortises should be measured and cut individually for each hinge.

An olive knuckle hinge is a type of hinge used in doors, cabinets, and other applications that require a pivot point for movement. It is named after its unique design, which features an elongated loop (the "olive") and a knuckle-like joint that allows for rotation.

The hinge consists of two parts: a male leaf and a female leaf. The male leaf has a pin attached to it, while the female leaf has the elongated loop or "olive." When the pin is inserted into the loop, it forms a pivot point that allows the two leaves to rotate relative to each other.

Olive knuckle hinges are often used for their aesthetic appeal, as they offer a clean, minimalistic look compared to other hinge types. They are commonly found in high-end residential and commercial settings, as well as in architectural and design projects where appearance matters.

These hinges can be made from various materials, including brass, stainless steel, and bronze. The choice of material will depend on the application, desired appearance, and level of durability required.

A Warwick dummy strap is a decorative metal plate that is designed to mimic the appearance of a hinge on a door or gate, but is not functional. It is often used in conjunction with a real hinge to provide a uniform and aesthetically pleasing look to a piece of furniture or architecture.

The term "dummy strap" refers to the fact that the plate is not functional, and does not actually provide any support or stabilization to the hinge. Instead, it is purely decorative, often featuring intricate designs or patterns that can add visual interest and elegance to a piece.

When used with a hinge, a Warwick dummy strap is typically attached to the surface of the door or gate, adjacent to the actual hinge, to create a symmetrical appearance. This can be especially effective for larger doors or gates that feature multiple hinges, as the dummy straps can help to unify the overall design and create a more cohesive look.

How long does it take to get my hardware once it's been ordered?

The delivery time depends on how far you live from our San Diego warehouse. Generally, your order will reach you in 1 to 5 business days. Shipments do not move on weekends and holidays.

Do you ship merchandise outside the United States?

At this time, we only ship to addresses in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. I have a hinge that I am trying to replace but I need help identifying it. Can you help?

Yes! Please click here to visit our Hinge Finder page.

Some of your hinges are sold by the each and some sell by the pair. What is the difference?

When the unit of measure says “pair” that means two hinges. Usually you need one pair of hinges per door. When the unit of measure says “each” that means one hinge. You would usually order 2 “each” hinges per door.

I want to replace my hinges. How do I make sure the screw holes on the new hinge match the screw holes on the old hinge so I do not have to redrill the holes?

Unfortunately, hinge manufacturers have never standardized the location of their screw hole patterns. Every manufacturer puts their screw holes in a slightly different place. This means that when you replace hinges you will almost certainly have to do some filling and redrilling. The exception to this is Architectural door hinges which are built to a standardized template for each size hinge.
