For many, additional security measures are a must. If this is you, then consider the stainless steel 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch electrified butt hinge. This option allows a low voltage electric current to pass from the door frame leaf to the door side leaf of a standard architectural grade hinge. This allows control of various electric items on the door such as electric locks, access control devices, and alarms. For homes, commercial businesses, warehouses, and more, security matters.
There are several features to consider when purchasing the stainless steel 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch electrified butt hinge. It comes in a Satin Stainless Steel finish, which looks great in essentially any application. The hinges are UL Listed and Fire Rated, as well as UL Rated for 50 volts AC/DC at 3.5 amp continuous and 16 amp pulse (maximum pulse width: 400msec with 10sec minimum off time between pulses). There are four wires per hinge, although other wire configurations are available by special order. The stainless steel 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch electrified butt hinge must only be used as the middle hinge. One important note to keep in mind is that the hinge pin is NOT removable. With this, a mortar guard is required for all applications which have a grout-filled door frame. Failure to install a mortar guard for this application will void any warranty on these hinges. This may be special ordered if necessary.
Please note that these hinges are sold individually, not in pairs. This is because they will be used with two non-electrified hinges. Some of your hinges are sold by the each and some sell by the pair. What is the difference?
When the unit of measure says “pair” that means two hinges. Usually you need one pair of hinges per door. When the unit of measure says “each” that means one hinge. You would usually order 2 “each” hinges per door.
I want to replace my hinges. How do I make sure the screw holes on the new hinge match the screw holes on the old hinge so I do not have to redrill the holes?
I want to replace my hinges. How do I make sure the screw holes on the new hinge match the screw holes on the old hinge so I do not have to redrill the holes?
Unfortunately, hinge manufacturers have never standardized the location of their screw hole patterns. Every manufacturer puts their screw holes in a slightly different place. This means that when you replace hinges you will almost certainly have to do some filling and redrilling. The exception to this is Architectural door hinges which are built to a standardized template for each size hinge.
